Holi is the celebration of the victory of good over evil. Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Krishna. His father, the king did not believe in god, and forbade anyone in his kingdom to worship anyone but him. When the king found out that Prahlad was worshipping Lord Krishna, he got Holika, his sister, who had a boon that she could not be killed by fire, to sit with him in her lap, and a bonfire was lit around her. Lord Krishna protected Prahlad, but Holika perished.
